At its Sep 2008 Closing Plenary, ITU-T Study Group 17 noted that, according to an agreement co-signed by the South African ISO National Body and the South African ITU Member State, SABS is the Registration Authority for the country OID for South Africa. This agreement was also noted by ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 6 at their Nov 2008 Plenary meeting.

However, on 10 Dec 2014, Sazi Zangqa, International Relations Specialist: ISO, International Relations Department of SABS, stated that "SABS Standards Division does not offer this service. According to the records and my knowledge Isabel Rennison never performed this activity. I am unable to commit the organisation to an activity which I don't know what it entails." This seems to be confirmed by the fact that no child OIDs are described in this OID repository. The consequence is that there is no registration authority for this OID.
