    Description by mibdepot

When backbone mode is enabled, the port is selected as
the backbone port for the workgroup and will transmit
all individually addressed packets, whose destination
address does not reside in any of the other SEC10 ports
within the workgroup. When disabled, the port will
operate as a standard workgroup port.

Each workgroup must have one port defined as the
backbone port. However, only one port may be defined
as the backbone for a workgroup configuration.
